Which vehicles count as light duty?

  • Sedans, coupes and hatchbacks
  • SUVs, crossovers and minivans
  • Pickup trucks, including pickups pulling a small trailer (tell us the trailer size)
  • Luxury, sports and lowered cars
  • Cars that won’t start, have a flat with no spare, or were in an accident

What should I tell the dispatcher?

  1. Where you are: the road and direction, or the street and nearest cross street.
  2. The year, make, model and color of the car.
  3. What happened: it won’t start, a flat with no spare, an accident, or it’s stuck.
  4. Where the car should go: your mechanic, a dealer, a body shop or your home.
  5. Whether the keys are with the car.

What should I do while I wait?

  1. Move the car off the road if you can do it safely, and turn on the hazard lights.
  2. On I-10 or the bridge, get out on the side away from traffic only if it’s safe, and wait well off the shoulder.
  3. Take your phone, wallet and valuables out of the car.
  4. If anyone is hurt, call 911 first.

Could it be a roadside fix instead?

Sometimes, yes. A dead battery may only need a jump start, a flat with a good spare a tire change, an empty tank fuel delivery, and keys locked inside a car lockout visit. Tell us what happened and we’ll tell you which one you need.
