What should I tell the dispatcher?
- Where you are: the road and direction, or the street and nearest cross street.
- Your vehicle, and the fuel type: regular, premium or diesel.
- Whether the engine stopped while driving, or it just won’t start.
- Whether you’d like extra fuel beyond enough to reach a station.
What if I put the wrong fuel in?
Don’t start the engine. Gas in a diesel engine, or diesel in a gas engine, can damage it. Call us, and we can tow the vehicle to a shop to have the tank drained. See light duty towing.
How do I stay safe while I wait?
- Pull as far off the road as you can and turn on the hazard lights.
- Don’t smoke, and keep any open flame away from the vehicle.
- If you get out, use the side away from traffic and wait well off the road.
- On I-10 or the bridge, don’t walk along the shoulder to find a station. Wait for help.
What if it won’t start after refueling?
Some diesel engines need the fuel system primed after running dry, and some breakdowns have a second cause. If it won’t start, we can jump the battery or tow the vehicle.
